City Bank recently appointed Mashrur Arefin, a renowned retail banker, as DMD & Chief Operations Officer for the bank. Arefin joined City Bank in 2007 as Head of Retail Banking. In his new role he will also oversee the brand and communications of the bank as Chief Communications Officer. Arefin started his career in 1995 as a Management Trainee in erstwhile ANZ Grindlays Bank and has worked in Standard Chartered Bank, Qatar, American Express Bank in Dhaka, Eastern Bank, Brac Bank and Citi Bank N.A. in important roles in retail banking and cards. Arefin was instrumental in introducing American Express cards to Bangladesh. He is an MA from Dhaka University and an MBA from Victoria University, Australia.
